Frequently Asked Questions -Retreats

1. Do I need any surfing experience to join the retreat?

Not at all. Our retreat is designed for complete beginners up to intermediates. Whether it’s your first time on a board, you’ve had a few early sessions, or you are already riding green waves, we meet you exactly where you are with supportive, step-by-step coaching.

2. I’m an intermediate—will the coaching still suit me?

Yes. Our coaches will split the groups and tailor each session so you can progress at your own pace. If you’re already catching green waves, we’ll help you refine technique, build confidence, and take the next natural step in your surfing.

3. How do I know which level I’m at?

Click on the link for a description about the different surfing levels.

4. Is this retreat suitable for women in midlife or returning to surfing after a long break?

Absolutely. Many of our guests are navigating midlife transitions or returning to surfing after years away. We create a relaxed, judgment-free environment with thoughtful coaching that honors where your body and confidence are right now.

5. What fitness level do I need to have before attending?

A basic level of fitness helps, but you don’t need to be an athlete. Our sessions are paced gently, and we offer a Pre-Retreat Surf Ready program to help you feel strong and surf-ready (totally optional).

6. What type of surf coaching is included?

You’ll receive personalised, small group coaching with qualified experienced surf coaches. Sessions include land-based technique, water time, confidence building, ocean safety, and tailored guidance for your level.

7. How many guests are there per surf coach?

Our retreat has a max of 8 participants. We keep our ratios intentionally small to ensure you get hands-on support. Typically, you can expect a ratio of 1 coach to 3–4 guests.

8. What kind of waves and surf conditions can I expect?

We choose the most suitable surf spot each day based on the conditions. Most days you can expect gentle, rolling waves that are ideal for beginners and advanced beginners, with the option of slightly more powerful, longer waves nearby for those who are progressing into an intermediate level. Our coaches always match you with the waves that best support your confidence and skill.

9. What is included in the retreat price?

This retreat is all-inclusive! It includes accommodation, all meals, daily surf coaching (accept on arrival day), all surf equipment and wetsuits, tailored workshops, surf mobility classes, and ongoing connection through our guest community. Check out the itinerary for more details.

10. Do I need to bring my own surfboard or wetsuit?

You’re welcome to bring your own gear, but we also provide high-quality soft-top boards and wetsuits at no extra cost. If you’re an intermediate surfer who prefers riding a hard board, we recommend bringing your own setup but if that’s not possible, no worries as we also have a great selection of hard boards to choose from.

11. Is the Pre-Retreat Surf Ready program required?

No, it’s completely optional. It’s simply a great way to prepare your body so you get the most out of your retreat—but you’ll still be absolutely ready even if you choose not to do it.

12. Is this retreat suitable for solo travellers?

Definitely. Many women join on their own, and by the end of the retreat, friendships form naturally. Our WhatsApp group helps you connect even before you arrive.

13. What is the age range of guests who typically attend?

Most of our guests are women aged 35–60+, with many in their 40s and 50s. Our environment is welcoming, supportive, and centered around women in midlife.

14. What if I feel nervous or self-conscious about surfing at my age?

You’re not alone—and this is exactly why we created this retreat. We offer a safe, encouraging space where everyone is learning together. Our coaching focuses on confidence, joy, and celebrating what your body can do.

15. Is this retreat appropriate if I have mild injuries or mobility concerns?

In many cases, yes. Please reach out to us ahead of time so we can discuss your needs. Our coaches are experienced in adapting sessions and movement to suit different bodies.

16. What is the accommodation like, and can I choose my room type?

We offer modern, coastal-inspired accommodation designed for comfort and relaxation. Room styles vary to suit different budgets, and you can choose the option that feels right for you. We offer both private and shared room options, depending on your preference.

17. How does the daily schedule work? Is there free time to relax?

Yes. All our activities are absolutely optional, and we have included plenty time to rest, explore Byron, enjoy the beach, journal, or simply unwind by the pool. We balance activity with spacious downtime, so you never feel rushed.

18. What if the surf conditions aren’t ideal during the retreat?

We’re flexible. If conditions shift, we adjust the schedule, choose a different spot, or offer alternative ocean-focused workshops and coaching. Your experience is always our priority.

19. What should I pack for the retreat?

We’ll send you a detailed packing list after you book. Generally, you’ll want swimwear, sunscreen, a hat, comfortable activewear, and anything that helps you feel relaxed and at home.

20. How do I get to the retreat, and is airport transport available?

The closest airport is Ballina. We will send you a list of transport companies to help you arrange transport from there to the retreat accommodation. Driving and rideshare options are also available. Once you are at the retreat all transport to the activities is included.

21. How do I stay connected with the group before and after the retreat?

We set up a private WhatsApp group so you can connect, share updates, and stay in touch long after the retreat ends. Many of our guests form lifelong friendships.

22. Do I need travel insurance?

As your deposit is non-refundable after the 14 day cooling off period, we recommend getting domestic travel insurance that will cover you if you need to cancel due to any unpredictable circumstances. For our ladies traveling from over seas we highly recommend travel insurance that covers surfing activities.

23. What kind of food is provided?

Enjoy fresh, nourishing meals prepared by our retreat chef each day, with all dietary needs accommodated. Plus, one evening we’ll enjoy a special dinner out at one of Byron’s top restaurants.

24. What’s not included ?

Flights, personal travel insurance, transport to the retreat and any optional add-ons (e.g., massages).

25. What happens after I book?

You’ll receive a welcome email and an invoice for the balance which full payment is due 60 days from the retreat start date. 1 month prior to the retreat start date you will receive a packing list, optional Surf Ready program, and access to a group WhatsApp to connect with other attendees before you arrive.

26. What is the cancellation policy?

We want you to feel completely at ease with your decision. After you pay your deposit, you’ll have 14 days to change your mind (cooling off period) with a full refund. Beyond this period, the deposit is non-refundable as we begin preparing your retreat experience.

Your final balance is due 60 days before the retreat. We’re happy to set up a payment plan if you’d prefer to pay in smaller instalments.

Cancellations made after the 14-day cooling-off period and up to 60 days before the retreat begins will receive a 50% refund on payments made, minus the non-refundable deposit.

If you can no longer attend, you’re welcome to transfer your booking to another woman (35+) at no extra cost, as long as you notify us in writing.

We strongly encourage travel insurance to protect your plans.
